The Special Action Committee on Public Safety under the Regional Peace and Order Council – National Capital Region (RPOC-NCR) hosted last August 25, 2021 an orientation conference on the TsuperHero: Kasangga sa Resbakuna, a vaccination program initiated by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) for transport workers. City/Municipal Health Officials and DILG-NCR Field Office focal persons were in attendance via the Zoom platform.

The activity introduced to the participants from the 17 LGUs of NCR the vaccination program targeting workers in the transportation sector comprising drivers, operators, and ticket sellers.

Ms. Joyce Rivera, Project Development Officer IV of DOTr, gave an overview of the TsuperHero program while Dr. Jose Mari C. Castro, Development Management Officer V of DOH, elaborated on the role of the Department of Health – Metro Manila Center for Health Development (DOH-MMCHD) in the same program.

A pilot run of the initiative was undertaken in the City of Parañaque, where terminals and garages were used as vaccination sites. Some 2,495 of the 6,000 target workers were inoculated during the exercise using the retrofitted buses of the Metro Manila Consortium Corporation (MMCC) as vaccination facilities. Dr. Olga Virtusio, City Health Officer of Parañaque City, elaborated on other relevant aspects of the program based on the city’s experience in the field.

Given the positive feedback for the initiative, the DOTr plans to expand its implementation to include other NCR-LGUs.

The orientation also served as a forum to discuss possible issues and concerns regarding the TsuperHero program and to elicit inputs to foster further collaboration between and among national government agencies and local government units.

The RPOC-NCR, through the DILG-NCR acting as its Secretariat, will be issuing a memorandum encouraging NCR-LGUs to collaborate with the DOTr and adopt the TsuperHero program for their respective jurisdictions.#
