The Regional Peace and Order Council of the National Capital Region (RPOC-NCR), through its Special Action Committee on Crime and Disorder and Violent Extremism and Insurgency (SAC CADVEI), held an inter-agency teleconference on the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 last August 31, 2021.
Representatives from RPOC-NCR member agencies and from Local Peace and Order Councils of NCR LGUs, as well as field officers and cluster heads of DILG-NCR, participated in the event.
RPOC-NCR Chairman and Parañaque Mayor Edwin L. Olivarez emphasized the rights accorded to everyone under the law insofar as privacy issues are concerned. Dir. Maria Lourdes L. Agustin, Regional Director of DILG-NCR and Head of the RPOC Secretariat, pledged to fully support and cooperate with the various agencies charged with enforcing cybercrime statutes.
Senior officials of the PNP, NBI, DOJ and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) provided valuable insights, perspectives and expertise on the various aspects of cybercrime and the many threats it poses to public safety, national security and social and civic order in general. These threats are particularly acute given the expanded use of internet-enabled platforms to, among others, transact business, transfer funds, deliver educational services and communicate with one another in the face of quarantine restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This activity resulted in a better appreciation among stakeholders of the state of cybercrime prevention in the country and the efforts made by law enforcement and policymakers towards better cybersecurity outcomes.#
