As part of the intensified efforts of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to rehabilitate and preserve the Manila Bay, the DILG-National Capital Region,  through its Manila Bay Clean-Up, Rehabilitation, and Preservation Program – Program Management Team (MBCRPP-PMT), successfully conducted the 2024 Fisheries Compliance Audit (FishCA) Table Assessment and Onsite inspection in the cities of Las Piñas, Manila, Navotas, Pasay, and Parañaque from June 4 to 11, 2025.

The FishCA is a key annual mechanism designed to assess the performance and compliance of coastal LGUs in implementing mandated fishery laws, coastal resource management (CRM) policies, and environment-related ordinances. It supports national objectives under Republic Act No. 8550, or the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998, as amended by Republic Act 10654, and complements the wider environmental restoration strategies under the MBCRPP.

The FishCA validation process ensures to promote effective, science-based, and participatory coastal and fisheries governance among LGUs. The findings and scores from the audit, involving face-to-face assessments and on-site inspections by the Regional Validation Team (RVT), which included representatives from the DILG-NCR, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-National Capital Region (BFAR-NCR), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-National Capital Region (DENR-NCR), and PNP Maritime Group, will be used to guide capacity-building initiatives, technical support, and policy direction for the LGUs involved.

The DILG National Capital reaffirms its commitment to empowering LGUs to take the lead in preserving marine and coastal resources and in fulfilling their shared responsibility for a cleaner, safer, and more resilient Manila Bay.
