Amid evolving power supply challenges affecting the country, the Department of the Interior and Local Government – National Capital Region (DILG-NCR) strongly supports the Association of Information Officers in Metro Manila (AIMM) in shaping a disciplined, responsive, and citizen-focused communication environment across Metro Manila. By upholding stringent standards for responsible information dissemination, the Department ensures it remains a trusted source of clear, timely, and accurate updates for its clientele.

In line with this direction, the DILG National Capital Region, as a member of the AIMM,  joined the Alignment Meeting on Communication Efforts held on April 14, 2026 at the Meralco Mini Theater in Ortigas, Pasig City. Representing the Department in the meeting was Regional Information Officer Ronald R. Portales. The initiative placed emphasis on equipping all Public Information Officers (PIOs) in Metro Manila with the tools and protocols necessary to address misinformation swiftly, while maintaining coherence in all government messaging related to the current energy situation.

Meralco Vice President Joe Zaldarriaga expressed his appreciation to the AIMM, thanking them for bringing together a community of communicators, and for organizing the special meeting which creates a space for timely and relevant conversations. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering collaboration, encouraging meaningful dialogue, and strengthening connections among communication professionals in addressing today’s most pressing issues.

During the alignment meeting, AIMM President and Undersecretary of the Department of Budget and Management Goddes Hope O. Libiran outlined key principles of crisis communication. She underscored the duty of PIOs to anticipate information gaps, respond with accuracy and urgency, and utilize data-driven approaches in crafting messages that resonate with and guide the public effectively.

In partnering with private sector stakeholders such as Meralco, AIMM continues to champion efforts that are anchored on its commitment to combat misinformation. Through these initiatives, AIMM works on strengthening the capacity of Public Information Officers as credible sources of truth, and enhancing coordination between public and private sectors to ensure the delivery of verified, consistent updates.

Through these collective actions, the DILG-NCR is reinforcing a governance approach rooted in coordination, competence, and accountability—ensuring that every Filipino in the National Capital Region is equipped with the information needed to navigate the current challenges with confidence and resilience. DILG-NCR remains steadfast in its commitment to support the AIMM and all partner agencies in empowering communities through transparent, proactive, and responsible communication.
