In recognition of outstanding contributions to nutrition, Department of the Interior and Local Government–NCR (DILG-NCR) Regional Director Maria Lourdes L. Agustin, CESO III, underscored the critical role of nutrition in national development and lauded the unwavering efforts of local government units and stakeholders during the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held on September 11, 2025, at the Novotel Araneta, Cubao, Quezon City.

In her speech, Regional Director Agustin emphasized that nutrition is not merely a health concern but a foundation for social and economic growth.

“Nutrition plays a huge role in the development and well-being of a nation. It’s about fueling bodies, boosting health, and building stronger communities. Proper nutrition results in a healthier workforce, better cognitive development in children, reduced healthcare costs, and ultimately, a stronger economy,” Regional Director Agustin mentioned.

She highlighted that addressing nutrition challenges is key to breaking cycles of poverty and inequality, especially among vulnerable populations. Recognizing the alignment of local efforts with the national strategy to improve health outcomes and spur inclusive development, she praised the innovation and dedication demonstrated by LGUs and nutrition advocates.

The event was attended by key figures in health, local governance, and nutrition advocacy. Among those present were Ms. Milagros Elisa V. Federizo, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, NNC-NCR, Regional Director Lester M. Tan, DOH – Metro Manila Center for Health Development, Atty. Rosalina U. Bascao, CPA, MGM, Deputy Executive Director, National Nutrition Council, Former senator and former DILG Secretary Atty. Jose D. Lina Jr., Quezon City Mayor Maria Josefina Belmonte-Alimurung, Members of the Regional Nutrition Committee, Members of the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team, and Local nutrition focal points and representatives from all 17 local government units in the National Capital Region.
