The Department of the Interior and Local Government–National Capital Region (DILG-NCR) proudly expressed its full support for the Inter-DRRM Taskforce Convergence Zone, underscoring the critical role of science, coordination, and innovation in strengthening disaster preparedness across Metro Manila. The Convergence Zone, held at the DOST PAGASA Science Garden Compound in Quezon City on March 26, 2026, served as a vital platform that brings together national government agencies, local government units (LGUs), and technical institutions to showcase cutting-edge systems, best practices, and collaborative efforts in disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM). The event also marked a historic milestone—the 161st year of meteorological service in the Philippines led by DOST–PAGASA.

DILG-NCR, through Regional Director Maria Lourdes L. Agustin, CESO III, emphasized that for LGUs, especially in a highly urbanized and densely populated region like Metro Manila, timely and accurate weather information is not just beneficial—it is essential. Real-time data and early warning systems significantly influence the effectiveness of evacuation protocols, emergency response, and overall public safety.

“As Vice-Chair for Disaster Preparedness in the region, we recognize that resilience begins with informed decision-making. Science must guide governance, and data must translate into action at the local level,” Regional Director Agustin stated.

DILG-NCR further highlighted that the growing threats posed by climate change, demand stronger partnerships and continuous innovation. Strengthening LGU capacities, investing in science and technology, and enhancing inter-agency coordination remain top priorities in building long-term resilience. The agency extended its deep appreciation to DOST–PAGASA and all partner institutions for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding Filipino communities through science-driven solutions.

As the nation celebrates 161 years of meteorological excellence, DILG-NCR reaffirmed its commitment to empowering local governments with the tools, knowledge, and support necessary to protect lives and livelihoods.
