The Department of the Interior and Local Government–National Capital Region (DILG-NCR) expressed its full support for the celebration of National Arts Month 2026 this February, underscoring the vital role of arts and culture in nation-building and community development. DILG-NCR joined many stakeholders and partner agencies in the Ani ng Sining: Katotohanan at Galing Press Conference and Stakeholders’ Launch held at the Centro de Turismo Intramuros in the City of Manila on January 20, 2026.

Representing DILG-NCR during the event were Regional Information Officer Ronald R. Portales and Program Evaluation Officer II Byron P. Nabua of the Public Information Unit, reaffirming the Department’s commitment to supporting national cultural programs and strengthening partnerships with cultural institutions and local governments.

The program formally opened with Atty. Joan M. Padilla, Administrator of the Intramuros Administration, who delivered the opening remarks highlighting the significance of collaborative efforts among government agencies in preserving and promoting Filipino heritage and creativity.

A key highlight of the event was the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Intramuros Administration, symbolizing a strengthened partnership in advancing cultural initiatives and artistic programs nationwide.

Mr. Eric B. Zerrudo, Ph.D., Chairman and Executive Director of the NCCA, encouraged partner agencies and local government units to actively support and participate in the nationwide Ani ng Sining: Art FriDates, a flagship program of National Arts Month that brings the arts closer to communities in different local government units through accessible and inclusive cultural activities.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lordinio A. Vergara, Ph.D., Commissioner of the NCCA’s Subcommission on the Arts, formally introduced the National Arts Month 2026 programs, outlining a series of activities designed to celebrate Filipino creativity, recognize artists, and engage the public in meaningful artistic experiences.

Adding inspiration to the event, Miss Universe 2018 and NCCA Arts Ambassador Catriona Elisa M. Gray delivered a compelling message on the challenges artists face in today’s society. She emphasized how modern pressures and imposed standards often affect artists in the pursuit of their craft, noting that art should not be measured by the number of likes or shares it receives. Instead, she stressed that the true value of art lies in the inspiration, motivation, and impact it brings to individuals and communities.

“I am encouraging you all, to continue putting art out there, regardless of whether it affects many or even just one person. In your pursuit of art, even just by affecting one life, you are already making a huge difference. I cannot wait to join all of you in our Art FriDates starting this February,” the former Miss Universe emphasized.

The Ani ng Sining: Art FriDates will officially commence this February 2026, to be hosted by various local government units on the following dates:

  • February 6, 2026 – Angono, Rizal
  • February 13, 2026 – Province of Bulacan
  • February 20, 2026 – Biñan, Laguna
  • February 27, 2026 – Quezon Province
  • March 6, 2026 – City of Muntinlupa, National Capital Region

Through its support for National Arts Month 2026, DILG-NCR continues to champion the promotion of the arts as a powerful tool for cultural awareness, community engagement, and inclusive development.
