In its effort to enhance its role as Vice-Chair for Disaster Preparedness, the Department of the Interior and Local Government – National Capital Region (DILG-NCR) has lined up a series of activities for the upcoming Disaster Preparedness Week in time for the onset of the rainy season.
The DILG-NCR will conduct a week long activity starting June 10 to 17, 2013 which intends to strengthen the foundation of resilience from urban poor communities by raising disaster awareness, particularly in flood situations, and improving response capacity within the framework of multi-stakeholders’ collaboration.
To kick-start the week-long event, a Command Conference, which will chaired by Secretary Mar Roxas, will be conducted on Monday, June 10, 2013 at the PNPTS Amphitheater, Camp Crame, Quezon City from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Following the Command Conference is a Synchronized Orientation-Consultation with the 11 Cities along major waterways wherein Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Plans, Contingency Plans, Hazard Maps, Evacuation Plans and Emergency Warning Systems will be evaluated and reviewed by the participants.
From there, flood drills will be observed with informal settler communities in select sixteen (16) barangays along NCR waterways with the participation of various National Government Agencies (NGAs), Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (LDRRMOs), Civil Society Organizations (Cos) and People’s Organizations (POs) to ensure actual preparedness of informal settler families for the anticipated rainy season. The said activities will be conducted starting June 10 to June 15, 2013.
To wrap up the celebration, an Exit Conference with Secretary Roxas will be conducted on June 17, 2013 at the PNPTS Amphitheater, Camp Crame, Quezon City to report the results from the three-day flood drills.
